Pelvic exams

A pelvic exam is a thorough assessment of your pelvis, vagina, vulva, cervix, ovaries, uterus, and rectum that helps identify early signs of chronic disease.

Pap smears

During your pelvic exam, the team may also perform a Pap smear. This procedure tests for cervical cancer. During a Pap smear, the team collects cervical cells from your cervix to test for early signs of cancer.

Contraception counseling

If you’re considering birth control, the team offers many different options. Oral contraception, intrauterine devices (IUDs), and the birth control shot are a few of the most common forms of contraception the team provides.

Menopause care

Menopause marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. Once you stop menstruating, your body experiences hormonal changes that can cause night sweats, hot flashes, irritability, weight gain, and other uncomfortable symptoms. Menopause care aims to restore balance to your hormones and relieve your symptoms.

STD testing

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) affect men and women, but they’re more transmissible in women. The team provides STD testing for all types of STDs, including gonorrhea, herpes, chlamydia, and syphilis. 

Bone density screenings

Bone density screenings determine whether you have osteoporosis, a chronic condition that causes brittle, porous bones. Osteoporosis increases your risk of bone fractures and is more common in women than in men.

The team recommends scheduling a women’s health exam at least once a year between the ages of 21 and 29. After age 30, you may visit once every two years for preventive screenings and check-ins with your women’s health care team. 

You may need more frequent visits if you experience new symptoms, pelvic pain, menstrual changes, or if you’re planning to start a family.
