Same-day appointments are reserved for patients with urgent health concerns. These appointments are appropriate when you have an illness or injury that doesn’t warrant an emergency room visit but does need attention in the next 24 hours. 

The team at Innovation Medical Group Southwest Territory reserves several appointments every day for patients who have experienced an unexpected injury or illness or need medical management for a complication with a chronic health condition. 

Same-day visits are appropriate when you have an urgent health need but are not facing a life-threatening condition. Some common reasons for a same-day appointment include:

• Flu or cold symptoms
• Fever/chills
• Upper respiratory infection
• Strep throat
• Urinary tract infection
• Sinus infection
• Unexplained rash
• Stomach virus
• Sports injury
• Suspected fracture or sprain

Patients with a chronic condition who are having a problem, such as an asthma flare-up or severe arthritis pain, also benefit from a same-day appointment. These urgent appointments do not replace your regular care visits, however.

Many mild to moderate illnesses and injuries are manageable at home with over-the-counter medications, rest, and fluids. But, certain symptoms that persist and worsen with time indicate you should seek medical care. These include:

• Chronic cough
• Severe throat pain
• Difficulty urinating
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Dehydration
• Prolonged fever
• Body aches and extreme fatigue
• Joint swelling
• Inability to bear weight on a joint

Life-threatening conditions, like symptoms of a heart attack or a deep stab wound, require a visit to the emergency room.

Depending on the nature of your symptoms, you may require specific tests, like blood work or X-rays, for an accurate diagnosis. These tests can be done right in the office, so there’s no need to take the time to travel to another location.
